Late Rally Falls Short as Men's Lacrosse Falls 10-7 to #3 Saint Anselm

Southern New Hampshire men's lacrosse rallied in the fourth quarter, but fell short in a 10-7 loss to third-ranked and undefeated Saint Anselm College on Wednesday night.

  • Sophomore Ryan Lynch (Derry, N.H.) - 1 goal, 1 assist, 1 ground ball, 1 caused turnover
  • Graduate student Aidan Boyle (Westfield, Mass.) - 2 ground balls, 2 caused turnovers
  • Sophomore Matt Roy (North Andover, Mass.) - 12 saves, 1 ground ball
KEY MOMENTS
  • The Penmen never led, but tied the game at 1-1 at 10:04 of the first when Patrick Roy scored unassisted.
  • Gallo and Cunningham (from Patrick Roy) scored in the second and the Hawks led 5-3 at intermission.
  • Saint Anselm took a six-goal lead by outscoring the Penmen 4-0 in the third quarter.
  • Gallo set up junior Aiden Blouin (Barre, Vt.) for a goal early in the fourth, and sophomore Sean Dwyer (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) made it 9-5 with an unassisted marker with 7:50 to play.
  • SNHU also scored the game's final two goals in the last 1:16 by Cunningham (from Lynch), and then Lynch (unassisted).
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Saint Anselm took 46 shots including 22 on goal. The Penmen had 13 shots on goal and 30 shots overall.
  • The Hawks had a 42-23 edge on ground balls and won 17 of 20 face offs.  They were 15 of 20 on clears and 0-1 with an extra man.
  • The Penmen were 18-of-23 on clears and the Hawks were 15-for-20.   SNHU was 0-for-2 with a man advantage.
  • Matt Lemay scored three goals for the Hawks and Chris Claflin (1 G, 4 A) was the top scorer for Saint Anselm.
  • Finn Granara (5 saves), and Naish Kelly (1 save) split time in goal for Saint Anselm.
NOTES
  • The win was the 11th straight for the Hawks over the Penmen and Saint Anselm leads 27-12 all-time.
  • One game remains in the regular season with the top six teams competing for the Northeast-10 Championship.  The Penmen are currently tied for sixth-place, but own the tie-breaker over Saint Michael's College.
