Game 2:  Southern New Hampshire University vs. Winona State - postponed

(Winter Haven, Fla.) - SNHU scored six runs in the first three innings, and went on to defeat Minnesota-Duluth 6-3 to open a Florida trip with the team's first win of the season.   Sophomore Shannon Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.) drove in runs with singles in both innings the Penmen scored runs.

GAME 1:
  • Sophomore Alyssa Dimauro (Chester, N.H.) opened the game with a single and was bunted to second by junior Bryn Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.)  Sophomore Bella Dickinson (Scarborough, Maine) singled, and the Penmen took the lead on a base-hit by graduate student Chloe Griffin (Scarborough, Maine).  Gifford followed with a base knock for a 2-0 lead.
  • SNHU scored its other four runs in the top of the fourth inning, sending eight batters to the plate.  Dimauro doubled to start, scoring on a single by Dickinson.  Griffin then singled and Gifford followed with a base-hit to make it 4-0.  A single by senior Brittany Mota (Lowell, Mass.) produced another run and a UMD error led to another for a 6-0 lead.
  • Back-to-back homers by Kiana Bender and Emma Frost brought the Bulldogs to within 6-2 in the bottom of the third inning, and they added a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning.
  • Sophomore Leine McKechnie (Passadumkeag, Maine) started in the circle, working into the fourth inning.  Freshman Gwyn Hammond (Los Angeles, Calif.) came into a bases-loaded situation, and Gifford was able to turn an unassisted double play catching a liner at third place to get out of the jam.  Hammond (W, 1-2) allowed one run over her 3.2 IP, allowing one hit, striking out four for the win.
