(Winter Haven, Fla.) - Senior Emily Carbonneau (Lowell, Mass.) blasted a three-run homer, her first of the season, and sophomore Bella Dickinson (Scarborough, Maine) added a solo shot as SNHU softball won 6-3 over Shippensburg University on Monday in Winter Haven, Fla.  A scheduled second game with Notre Dame College of Ohio was rained out.

GAME 1:
  • The Penmen took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.  Carbonneau walked and moved to second on a bunt by senior Brittany Mota (Lowell, Mass.).  Freshman Jordyn Resetar (Hanover, Pa.) singled to make it 1-0.  Another run scored when Dickinson drew a bases-loaded walk.
  • Carbonneau's homer came in the bottom of the fifth inning, after the Raiders had cut the lead to 2-1.  Graduate student Chloe Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) singled, and sophomore Shannon Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.) followed with a base-hit.  Carbonneau then easily cleared the fence in left field to put the Penmen up 5-1.
  • Dickinson hit her second home run of the season, a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Sophomore Leine McKechnie (Passadumkeag, Maine) started in the circle for the second time on the trip.  She went the distance, allowing three runs (two earned), on nine hits, walking two and striking out a pair.

  • SNHU was also scheduled to meet Notre Dame College (Ohio) on Tuesday.  The game was rained out.
