(Charlotte, N.C.) -- Freshman Alyssa DiMauro (Chester, N.H.) tallied three hits over two games including a lead off home run in game two, but the Southern New Hampshire University softball team concluded its season-opening weekend dropping games to Mount Olive (6-2) and Queens N.C. (11-3; 5 inn.) on Sunday at "The Tuck".

KEY MOMENTS - GAME 1 (Mount Olive)

·       Freshman Leine McKechnie (Passadumkeag, Maine) quieted the Trojans bats early on scattering three hits over the first four innings without allowing a run.

·       The Penmen were scoreless over the first four, but struck first as Bella Dickinson (Scarborough, Maine) homered to left field to lead off the home half of the fourth.

·       Mount Olive broke through with four runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth inning to chase McKechnie

·       SNHU rallied with a run in the sixth on an RBI single by DiMauro to make it 4-2.

·       The Trojans a pair of insurance runs in the home half of the sixth and closed the door on the Penmen in the top of the seventh to secure the win.

·       DiMauro had a pair of hits and an RBI; while Dickinson had a hit, run and RBI to pace the SNHU offense.

KEY MOMENTS - GAME 2 (Queens College) 

·       SNHU jumped out to an early lead as DiMauro opened the game with home run to left field.

·       The Penmen tacked on another run in the first on an RBI single by Jordyn Resetar (Hanover, Pa.) to make it 2-0.

·       SNHU scored two runs on three hits in the first, but left the bases loaded.

·       Queens answered with a single run in the home half of the first and a four-run inning in the second capped off by a 3-run homer by Haley Nelson.

·       The Royals crossed two more in the fourth and fifth innings to secure the 11-3 victory in five innings.

·       Nelson had a monster game going 3-for-3 with a double, two home runs six RBI and two runs scored for the Royals.

·       Three other players from Queens registered multiple hits.

·       SNHU's Jessica Johnston (Brussels, Ontario) made the start In the circle and allowed five earned runs in 1.2 innings to move to 0-2.. 

NOTES 

·       SNHU will have two weeks off before returning to action in Florida during spring break.

UP NEXT 

·       SNHU travels to Winter Haven, Florida for a 10-game road trip beginning Sunday, March 6, 2022 with a doubleheader versus University of Minnesota Duluth (1:30 p.m.) and Winona State University (3:45 p.m.). All games will be played at Diamondplex in Winter Haven, Florida.
