#20 Saint Anselm Runs Away from Men's Lacrosse, 18-8

Senior Zach Tanner (Woburn, Mass.) recorded a career-best five goals, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team was toppled by 20th-ranked Saint Anselm College, 18-8, Tuesday evening in the first night game ever at Penmen Stadium.

Senior Corey Cairo (Shoreham, N.Y.) was the other multiple-point scorer for the Penmen, registering a goal and an assist.

Six Saint Anselm goal scorers struck over the opening 12:30 of the contest to build a 6-0 advantage at the end of one. Tanner put the Penmen on the board for the first time 2:28 into the second quarter, with junior Tom Schutz (Trumbull, Conn.) answering Anthony Busconi's second tally of the night to make it a 7-2 game with 10:58 remaining in the opening half. After the visitors posted two more, Tanner capped the scoring with 49 seconds on the clock to trim the halftime deficit for SNHU to 9-3.

Cairo set up Tanner to answer a Saint Anselm goal 3:14 into the third quarter, but the Hawks owned the remainder of the stanza, going on a five-goal run to open a commanding 15-4 advantage.

Southern New Hampshire scored two of the first three goals of the final frame, with both coming from Tanner, but Griffin Shoemaker found the back of the net twice in a span of 2:27 to stretch the Saint Anselm lead to 18-6 with 6:03 to go. Strikes from Cairo and freshman Cole Jacobsen (Dartmouth, Mass.) closed the scoring to make it a 10-goal game.

Notes:
- Freshman Neal Murray (Marblehead, Mass.) stopped seven of the 20 shots he faced over the opening 37:43 of his second career start. Senior Michael Brawley (Tewksbury, Mass.) turned aside a pair during 16:56 of relief, while sophomore Jacob Dionne (Windham, Mass.) thwarted all three shot attempts he saw over the final 5:21. On the other side, Nick Richard knocked away eight of the 12 bids he faced in the first 45:53 for Saint Anselm, with CJ Hart making four saves in the final 14:07 of action.
- Saint Anselm outshot Southern New Hampshire, 45-35, including 18-9 in the first quarter.
- SNHU held a 15-14 edge in faceoffs won.
- The Hawks were 4-for-10 on extra-man opportunities, while the Penmen went just 2-for-9.
- Saint Anselm earns two points in the Queen City Cup standings and now holds a 15-13 edge on Southern New Hampshire in the battle for Manchester supremacy.
