WILMINGTON, Del. – Senior Alena Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) won her 65th doubles match Friday afternoon to become the all-time career leader in doubles wins in the Southern New Hampshire women's tennis program history. With the win, Mukdaprakorn surpassed former SNHU standout and 2011 graduate Catalina Echeverry who currently held the record with 64 career wins.
Despite the No. 1 doubles win from Mukdaprakorn, SNHU suffered its first loss of the season Friday afternoon to Goldey-Beacom College. The Lightning would beat the Penmen 6-3 in non-conference play. SNHU is now 2-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play while Goldey-Beacom improves to 5-1.
The Penmen lost all but two singles matches, while No. 5 singles Jamie Hann (Westhampton, N.Y.), and No. 6 Yolanda Green (Springfield, Mass.) would prevail over the Lightning. Hann won her match with scores of 6-3 and 6-1, and Green triumphed over Melanie Bonomo while heading into a tiebreaker match with scores of 6-1, 4-6, and 6-1.
In doubles action, Mukdaprakorn and Diana Vamvakitis (Wading River, N.Y.) would keep their 3-0 doubles streak going while beating S. Puentes Robinson and Anastasia Melnikova with a score of 8-2.
The Penmen will resume play this weekend at the ITA Regionals in Philadelphia before returning home to host Northeast-10 Conference opponent Saint Anselm Thursday, October 4 for a 3:30 p.m. match.
