Sophomores Melvin Vix (Thionville, France) and Phillipp Roeder (Aystetten, Germany) clinched the doubles point with a victory at No. 2, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team opened its trip to the Sunshine State with a 6-1 defeat against Florida Southern College on Saturday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Vix and Roeder edged Ryan Rajakar and George Russell, 6-4, at No. 2 doubles to put the Penmen in front, 1-0.
- Junior Jonathan Berling (Moss, Norway) and graduate student Aron Ouwejan (Wervershoof, Netherlands) earned the first doubles win, 6-2, by defeating Bosko Boskovic and Matthew Hewitt at No. 3 doubles.
NOTES
- The top three singles flights proved to be tough battles. Berling fell to Russell, 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 6-2, at No. 1 singles, senior Jesse Den Hartog (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) dropped a 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 decision to Chris Fok Kow at No. 2 singles and junior Cade Nadeau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) jumped out to a lead at No. 3 singles versus Mario Garoz, but lost, 5-7, 6-2, 6-0.
- Florida Southern improves to 8-0 all-time against the Penmen.
