Greg Coache was crowned the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Region Coach of the Year and freshman
Alina Kupfer (Munich, Germany) was picked as the ITA East Region Rookie of the Year on Tuesday.
Coache, in his 16th season, wins the honor for the second time (2010) on the women's side. Coache, who earned his sixth NE10 Women's Tennis Coach of the Year this season, has also been bestowed the ITA accolade four times for the men's team (2011, 2017, 2019, 2022). The Penmen finished the season 15-4 after going a perfect 9-0 in NE10 play and capturing their fourth NE10 title. The team collected its seventh NCAA Championship berth, but bowed out in the opening round.
Kupfer, who was named NE10 All-Conference First Team at both No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles, as well as a member of the NE10 All-Rookie Team, is the program's first ITA East Region Rookie of the Year. She went a stellar 19-4 in singles play, including a perfect 9-0 in the league and 16-3 at No. 2. In doubles play, Kupfer was 17-4, including 8-1 in the NE10 and 11-3 at No. 2.
Every year the ITA recognizes coaches and players for their excellence on the court and in their communities throughout the season. The national award winners will be announced Tuesday, June 6.
