Bella Dickinson (Scarborough, Maine) homered and drove in five runs, but SNHU could not complete a comeback and fell 9-8 at Franklin Pierce on Tuesday. The Ravens won the first game of the doubleheader 6-0.
KEY MOMENTS -GAME 1
- Franklin Pierce scored three runs in the third and fifth innings.
- Bella Williams and Melissa Konopinski knocked in runs with doubles to make it 3-0 in the third inning.
- The Ravens added three more to extend the lead in the sixth inning with Konopinski picking up another RBI.
- Junior Alyssa DiMauro (Chester, N.H.) had both SNHU hits with singles.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 1
- Junior Leine McKechnie (Passadumkeag, Maine) went the distance, allowing eight hits and six runs (five earned). She walked four and struck out four.
- Sabrina Gonzalez was the winner for Franklin Pierce.
KEY MOMENTS -GAME 2
- The Ravens opened a 5-0 lead, but the Penmen would rally back to make it a game.
- Freshman Abby Lineman (Doylestown, Pa.) homered in the fourth for the first run.
- A three-run homer by Dickinson in the fifth closed the game to 5-4.
- Franklin Pierce went back up 7-4 in the bottom of the inning on a homer by Hailey Bigwood.
- DiMauro and junior Ari Ferrier (Middleboro, Mass.) drew bases loaded walks, and Dickinson ripped a two-run single to give the Penmen an 8-7 lead in the top of the sixth inning.
- The Ravens tied the game in the bottom of the sixth, and won it in the bottom of the seventh on a walk-off single by Williams.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 2
- The Penmen recorded ten hits in all with Dickinson, DiMauro, senior Abi Gray (Litchfield, N.H.), and Lineman all recording two hits.
- Sophomore Hannah DeRock (Hunt, N.Y.) started the second game, relieved by sophomore Gwyn Hammond (Los Angeles, Calif.). McKechnie was tagged with the loss allowing two runs in 2.2 innings pitched.
NOTES
- The Penmen lead the all-time series 60-29, but the Ravens have won six of the last eight meetings.
- Franklin Pierce takes over first-place in the Northeast-10 standings at 8-2.
WHAT'S NEXT
- SNHU will play at Bentley in an NE10 doubleheader on Saturday, April 15 (12 p.m.)
- The next home games at the SNHU Softball Field are scheduled for Wednesday, April 19 at 3 p.m. against Saint Michael's College.
