Jonathan Berling (Moss, Norway) battled to three sets at No. 1 singles, but SNHU dropped a 7-0 decision at #22 Florida Southern College on Saturday afternoon in Lakeland, Florida.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- The Penmen earned a 6-2 doubles win on court #3 with freshman Phillipp Roeder (Augsburg, Germany) and graduate student Aron Ouwejan (Wervershoof, The Netherlands) defeating JP Fujiwara and Danny Thomas.
- The Mocs earned the doubles point as Matteo Feggi and Chris Fok Kow (eighth in ITA doubles) beat the No. 18 pairing of Berling and graduate student Fernando Torres (Truillion Alto, Puerto Rico), 7-6 (7-5).
- Fok Kow won an exciting match over Berling at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
- Ouwejan went to a first-set tie-breaker before dropping the No. 5 singles match to John Gidefjord 7-6 (7-3), 6-1.
- Florida Southern clinched the match with a win at No. 2 singles where Inaki Braun Simo handled SNHU junior Jesse Den Hartog (Amsterdam, The Netherlands), 6-3, 6-4.
NOTES
- The Penmen fell to 0-7 all-time against the Mocs.
- Florida Southern extended a winning streak to seven matches and was ranked #22 in the nation in the March 8 ITA Collegiate Rankings.
WHAT'S NEXT
- The Penmen are back in action Tuesday, March 14 when they meet Millsaps College in Orlando, Fla. at 6 p.m. in what will be the second of five matches in the Sunshine State.
