MANSFIELD, Mass. – Graduate student Ashley Corcoran (East Longmeadow, Mass.) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's cross country team was recognized as the NE10 Sport Excellence Award winner for women's cross country Thursday.
Corcoran, who was one of 15 women's cross country runners to be honored with an NE10 Academic All-Conference accolade last week, earns this award for the third time, but the first time for women's cross country. She was both the women's indoor and outdoor track & field NE10 Sport Excellence Award winner in 2021-22.
Corcoran, who posted a 3.81 grade-point average as an undergraduate and now has a perfect 4.0, while pursuing her Master's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing, produced a stellar 2022 campaign. In the seven meets she ran in, Corcoran came away with four victories, including the NCAA East Regional Championship (21:55.4) and NE10 Championship (21:26.7), as she helped the Penmen capture their first NCAA East Region and NE10 titles. Corcoran placed 88th at the NCAA National Championships (21:57.0). Corcoran, a four-time NE10 Athlete of the Week (Sept. 6, Sept. 20, Oct. 11, Oct. 25) in the fall, was chosen as the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) East Region Athlete of the Year and the NE10 Athlete of the Year, while also claiming spots on both the USTFCCCA East All-Region and NE10 All-Conference First Team.
