(Hooksett, N.H.) -- Graduate student Chloe Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) ripped a walk-off double to give the Penmen a 1-0 win over Pace in the opener of a doubleheader Saturday at the SNHU Softball Field.  Griffin then homered, and pitched her team to a 5-4 victory in the second game to complete a sweep, and give Head Coach Deb Robitaille her 400th career win.

GAME 1

  • A terrific pitcher's duel developed between SNHU sophomore Leine McKechnie (Passadumkeag, Maine) and Pace freshman Gisselle Garcia.
  • McKechnie worked one batter in the top of seventh inning without allowing a run.  She allowed three hits, walked three, and struck out three.
  • Freshman Gywn Hammond (Los Angeles, Calif.) worked the final two innings for the win.
  • Garcia (L, 3-2) matched her season-best with 10 strikeouts in the loss.
  • Junior Bryn Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) delivered a two-out single in the bottom of the eighth, and Griffin found the gap in right-center for the game-winning double.
  • The win was the 400th for 17th year Head Coach Deb Robitaille.
GAME 2
  • The Penmen hit three home runs in the nightcap.
  • The first two of the home runs came back-to-back in the bottom of the first inning by Griffin and sophomore Bella Dickinson (Scarborough, Maine) for a 3-0 lead.
  • A sacrifice fly and a two-run homer by Pace senior Zoie Iverson tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the third inning.
  • SNHU reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the third inning with a single by Garczynski, and a home run by senior Emily Carbonneau (Lowell, Mass.).
  • Griffin (1-3) pitched the first five innings to pick up her first win of the season.  Hammond worked the final two for her first save, limiting Pace to just a single run in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Jenny Gordon.
