Graduate student Marcus Chavez (Queens, N.Y.) and freshman Dylan O'Sullivan (Manchester, N.H.) both stayed hot at the plate, and grad student Nick Artymowicz (Seaville, N.J.) and redshirt-sophomore Ricky Alexy (Needham, Mass.) combined on a four-hit shutout in game two, as the 13th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team split a Senior Day doubleheader with in-state rival Franklin Pierce University on Sunday at Penmen Field. The Ravens grabbed a 15-6 victory in game one, with the Penmen posting an 8-0 shutout in the second game.

- Graduate student Joshua Goldstein (Haverhill, Mass.) – 2-5, double, RBI, 4 runs
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 1
- Southern New Hampshire jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by a two-run blast to center off the bat of Chavez.
- Franklin Pierce grabbed one back in the second on a Jonel Ozuna solo homer to right, before hanging a six-spot in the fourth to take the lead for good.
- The Penmen scored one in the home half of the fourth on an RBI double by redshirt-freshman Christian Mercedes (Providence, R.I.), but the visitors would score three times each in the fifth and sixth to break it open.
- A solo home run to center from O'Sullivan and a run-scoring double to right-center by redshirt-freshman Danniel Rivera (New Britain, Conn.) made it 13-6, but FPU would score two more in the seventh.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE - GAME 1
- O'Sullivan went 2-for-2 with the home run, an RBI and a pair of runs scored.
- Chavez (home run, walk, 2 RBI, run), Goldstein (run), Mercedes (double, RBI) and redshirt-junior Sam Henrie (Middleboro, Mass.; run) were all 1-for-3.
- Rivera (double, RBI) and redshirt-junior Idelson Taveras (Lawrence, Mass.; RBI) both finished 1-for-4.
- Grad student Wesley Tobin (Portsmouth, N.H.) started and was charged with seven runs - two earned - on five hits, while striking out five and walking three, over three-and-two-thirds innings.
- Junior Taylor Lepard (Toronto, Ontario) relinquished four runs on five hits over an inning-and-a-third, striking out one and walking a batter.
- Redshirt-junior Scott Webster (Newburyport, Mass.) tossed an inning and gave up two runs on two hits, while fanning a pair and walking one.
- Redshirt-freshman Daniel Owens (Ridge, N.Y.) also threw a frame and allowed two runs - one earned - on two hits, while recording a punchout.
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 2
- Sophomore Kieran Dowd (E. Islip, N.Y.) kept it scoreless in the top of the second inning, tracking down a deep fly ball and leaping to pull back what would have been a two-out, three-run homer for Randy Flores.
- SNHU snapped the scoreless deadlock in the third inning on a two-out RBI single to left from Taveras.
- The Penmen made it 3-0 in the fifth on a two-run double to left-center off the bat of redshirt-junior Dakota Mulcay (Goffstown, N.H.).
- The Ravens loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the sixth when Alexy came on in relief and induced a pop-up that got the Penmen out of the jam and started a streak of 10-in-a-row retired to end the game for Alexy.
- The hosts then doubled their lead in the bottom of the sixth, with an RBI double to right-center by Goldstein and run-scoring base knocks from Rivera and Taveras extending the lead to 6-0.
- SNHU would add two more in the eighth on a sac fly to right by Mulcay and an RBI double to right from Henrie.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE - GAME 2
- Taveras (2 RBI, run) and Chavez (double, run, steal) both went 2-for-4.
- Henrie was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
- Goldstein finished 1-for-2 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored, as he was also hit by a pitch twice.
- Mulcay went 1-for-3 with a double, walk and three RBI.
- Rivera was 1-for-4 with a walk, RBI, run and a steal.
- Dowd went 1-for-5 with a double.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire, ranked 13th in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Poll, has now won 29 of their last 33 games dating back to last season.
- The game-two blanking was the fourth shutout of the season for the Penmen.
- SNHU now leads the all-time series with Franklin Pierce, 45-41-1. It has won 13 of the last 16 meetings with the Ravens, who are receiving votes in the latest NCBWA DII Poll.
- The Penmen move to 9-3 at home this season and are now 104-27 (.794) at Penmen Field since the start of the 2014 campaign.
- Chavez' home run was his second of the season, the second in as many days and the fourth of his Penmen career.
- O'Sullivan's homer was also his second of the season and second in as many days.
- Chavez extended his hitting streak to 13 games and has now recorded a hit in 17 of his last 18, as well as 18 of 20 games this season. Chavez is 24-for-47 (.511) with 14 RBI and 18 runs during his 13-game hitting streak.
- Goldstein has hit safely in 15 of his last 17, while Taveras has hit safely in 14 of the last 16.
- O'Sullivan has shaken off that 0-for-11 start in a huge way, going 5-for-9 with two home runs, a double, three walks, six RBI, and six runs since.
- Tobin had his scoreless innings streak halted at 17-and-a-third.
- Chavez, Artymowicz, Goldstein, Tobin, Webster, redshirt-junior Alex Gomes (Peabody, Mass.), redshirt-sophomore Andrew Tache (Northborough, Mass.), redshirt-sophomore Jacob Hunt (Goffstown, N.H.) and grad student Tyler Fitzgerald (Peabody, Mass.) were all honored in a Senior Day ceremony prior to game one.
