(Rindge, N.H.) - The SNHU softball team finished the regular season with a split of a doubleheader on Sunday at Franklin Pierce. The Penmen won the opener 4-3 before falling 8-5 in the nightcap. Both games went nine innings.
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 1
- Junior Emily Carbonneau (Lowell, Mass.), playing for the first time in a week, had an RBI sacrifice fly in the seventh inning, and the game-winning single in the ninth.
- Franklin Pierce scored the first three runs of the game, a pair crossed on a two-run single by Maiah Lopez in the second inning and another scored after an SNHU error.
- A sacrifice fly by freshman Alyssa Dimauro (Chester, N.H.) cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the sixth inning. Sophomore Bryn Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.), who had tripled, scored.
- SNHU tied the game in the seventh inning. Senior Emily Critch (Halifax, Mass.) worked out a lead-off walk. Pinch-runner Ari Ferrier (Middleboro, Mass.) advanced to third on a pair of groundballs, scoring on a sacrifice fly by Carbonneau. Senior Jackie Gavin (East Bridgewater, Mass.) scored the tying run on a single by senior Coralie Mathieu (Methuen, Mass.).
- In the ninth inning, junior Brittany Mota (Lowell, Mass.) ran after senior Shay Sauvageau (Griswold, Conn.) walked. Gavin laid down a successful bunt ahead of Carbonneau's game-winning single.
- Senior Chloe Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) earned the win with two scoreless innings in relief.Â
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 2
- SNHU rallied twice in the game, forcing extra innings with a single run in the top of the seventh inning when Sauvageau singled to right field, plating freshman Shannon Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.).
- The Ravens won the game in the bottom of the ninth inning when Madi Killebrew hit a walk-off three-run homer.
- Critch had a solo home run for the Penmen in the top of the fifth inning, her team-leading fourth of the season.
NOTES
- Franklin Pierce had a nine-game win streak snapped in the opener, but the Ravens will head to the playoffs as the second-seed in the Northeast Division.
- SNHU leads the all-time series with the Ravens 59-26. Â
- These were the first two extra-inning games of the season for the Penmen.
UP NEXT
- The Northeast-10 Championship will begin on Tuesday afternoon with first-round divisional games. SNHU, the fourth-seed in the Northeast Division, will host fifth-seeded Bentley at 4 p.m.
