(Hooksett, N.H.) - Senior Jackie Gavin (East Bridgewater, Mass.) broke a 4-4 tie with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally SNHU to a 6-4 win over Stonehill College and a split of Saturday's doubleheader.  Sunday's scheduled twin-bill has been postponed until April 6 due to expected inclement weather.

KEY MOMENTS - GAME 1
  • Stonehill jumped on SNHU starter senior Olivia Strasser (Rutland, Mass.) for five runs in the first three innings to open a 5-0 lead they would not relinquish.
  • Strasser (0-2) settled down and completed the contest, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits, walking two and striking out six.
  • The Penmen rallied to within 5-4 with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Senior Chloe Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) had a two-run double and freshman Alyssa Dimauro (Chester, N.H.) followed with a run-scoring single.
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 2
  • Down 1-0, SNHU tied the game in the bottom of the first inning.  Griffin singled, advanced to second on a groundout, and scored on a single by freshman Shannon Gifford (Goffstown, N.H.)
  • Stonehill's Michelle Theilgard hit her first home run of the season, a two-run shot off Griffin, for a 3-1 lead in the third.  A double by Maille Bennett in the fourth inning made it 4-1 in favor of the Skyhawks.
  • The Penmen rallied to tie the game in the last of the fifth inning with three runs.
  • In the decisive sixth, DiMauro doubled and Gavin singled her home to make it 5-4.  Sophomore Abi Gray (Litchfield, N.H.) singled as Gavin reached third.  Sophomore Bryn Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) ground out as Gavin scored.
  • Griffin (1-1) worked the first six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits.  Strasser (S 1) worked around a walk in the top of the seventh inning to earn the save, the first of her career.
NOTES
  • Sunday's scheduled doubleheader will be made up at the SNHU softball field on Tuesday, April 6, starting at 4:00 p.m.
  • The Penmen picked up 15 hits on Saturday, including the first two extra-base hits of the season.  Griffin and DiMauro each had doubles.  SNHU has not hit a home run in the first four games.
  • Griffin led the offense with a pair of two-hit games.  Through four games, she leads the team with a .429 average (6-for-14).
