BOX SCORE

When and Where: February 3, 2018 – Shelton, Conn. (The Sports Center of Connecticut)
Score: Southern New Hampshire University 8, Post University 2
Records: SNHU 10-6-3, Post 2-17-1

Sophomore DJ Goldstein (Wareham, Mass.) scored a pair of goals and added two assists, as the Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team used a five-goal first period to skate to an 8-2 victory over Post University on Saturday.

Sophomore Brett Strawn (Wareham, Mass.) added three points in the triumph on a goal and two assists, while senior Timothy Baylis (West Haven, Conn.) turned in a three-point night of his own on two goals and a helper.

After the two teams skated to a scoreless stalemate for the opening five-plus minutes, sophomore Jared Goudreau (Manchester, N.H.) broke through for his seventh of the year from Baylis at 5:47. Strawn and Goldstein setup senior Chris Moquin (Hooksett, N.H.) for his team-leading 15th of the season with 9:41 remaining, which was the first of a four-goal burst that spanned the ensuing 4:39. Junior Joseph Berardi (Burlington, Mass.) extended the lead to three goals at 11:57 before Baylis tallied his first of the night 51 seconds later. Goldstein capped the period's scoring on a powerplay marker from Strawn with 5:02 left before the intermission.

The Eagles trimmed their deficit back to four just over eight minutes into the second, but Strawn etched his name into the goal column with help from Moquin and Goldstein at 18:24 to reestablish the five-goal edge heading into the third.

Neither side generated much offense through the first 12 minutes of the final stanza until Southern New Hampshire put the game away with a pair of shorthanded goals. Baylis put away the first shorty of the frame at 12:42 from senior Griffin Rogers (Sanbornton, N.H.) and freshman Max Kent (Sandwich, Mass.) before Goldstein iced it with a man-down marker of his own at 17:25. Post would tack on a powerplay goal in the final 90 seconds of regulation to provide the final margin of scoring.

Senior Ryan Slatky (Manchester, N.H.) picked up his fifth win of the season between the pipes after steering aside 38 of the 39 shots he faced in the opening 52:42. Sophomore Alex Reissis (Arlington, Mass.) entered for the final 7:18 and registered four saves.

Notes:
- The Penmen close out the non-conference portion of their schedule with a record of 6-1-1. Southern New Hampshire nearly doubled its opponents' scoring output in the eight games, as it posted 37 goals and allowed 19.

- The Penmen converted on 1-of-3 powerplay opportunities and killed off four of their five man-down situations.
- Southern New Hampshire runs its record to a perfect 10-0-0 when scoring three goals or more this season. The Penmen also remain unbeaten when leading at the end of the first period (7-0-1) and improve to 9-1-0 when they are ahead after two.
