Redshirt-junior Cassidy Huckins (Loudon, N.H.) and junior Laura van der Doorn (Beverwijk, The Netherlands) each scored goals to lead the Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Bentley University on Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
- Huckins' score was her team-best eighth of the season, while van der Doorn's was her fifth.
- Senior Melanie Rennie (Madison, Conn.) turned aside three of the four shots she faced.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Penmen needed just 1:12 to put the first goal on the board, as freshman Emily Campbell (Raynham, Mass.) drove into the middle and dished a pass to the left for Huckins, who went five-hole on Bentley goalkeeper Tatiana Naclerio to make it 1-0.
- The score stayed that way through halftime until Southern New Hampshire doubled its lead in the 47th minute on a great individual effort for van der Doorn, who dribbled, dodged and slipped her way past a number of Bentley defenders before sending a reverse-stick shot into the top left corner to stretch the advantage to 2-0.
- Bentley sliced its deficit in half in the 64th minute when Tess Anderson centered a pass that deflected off a defender to the middle of the circle for Keally Ingersoll, who back-tracked to collect the ball before quickly firing a shot off the blocker of Rennie and into the left side of the cage.
