Graduate student Zach Goldstein (Merrick, N.Y.) recorded his 200th career hit and the Penmen homered three times as the fifth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team posted a 9-3 victory against crosstown-rival Saint Anselm College on Thursday afternoon at Penmen Field.

Southern New Hampshire grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when sophomore Robert Fulkerson (Anaheim, Calif.) took the first pitch he saw and ripped a two-out solo shot to right field.

The Penmen then loaded the bases in the third after walks to junior Kyle Pangallo (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and senior Derek Bauer (Millis, Mass.), as well as a single to left from redshirt-junior Ryan Sullivan (Hopkinton, Mass.). Redshirt-sophomore John Stanton (Sandwich, Mass.) then came through with a single down the left field line that brought in a pair to make it 3-0.

Saint Anselm jumped on the board against redshirt-junior starter Jake Stearns (Plymouth, Mass.) in the top of the fourth when John Marculitis drove a double to left-center, went to third on Colin Rios' infield single and scored on Jason Turner's groundout to short.

SNHU added two more in the fifth on an RBI double from junior Caleb Potter (Mentor, Ohio) and a run-scoring single from Fulkerson that stretched the lead to 5-1.

The Hawks sliced their deficit in half in the top of the sixth as Marculitis hit a two-run homer to left that scored Nick Bragole, who singled to center to get aboard.

Potter extended the advantage to 7-3 in the seventh when he hammered a payoff pitch deep to the trees in left-center, bringing home Sullivan, who led off the frame with a base knock to left.

Sullivan got in on the home run act in the eighth, hitting an absolute bomb to left-center that brought in freshman Tom Blandini (Bow, N.H.), who pinch ran for Bauer after a single through the right side, to make it a 9-3 game.

Freshman Ryan Steffens (Commack, N.Y.), who took over for Stearns in the top of the eighth, tossed a scoreless ninth to finish it off.

Sullivan finished 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and three runs scored, while Potter (three RBI, two runs) and Bauer (walk, run) were each 2-for-4. Fulkerson went 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBI and a run scored, with Goldstein posting a 2-for-5 day.

Stearns (5-0) allowed three runs on seven hits, while fanning six and not walking a batter, in seven innings. Steffens spun a pair of scoreless frames, giving up two hits and recording a strikeout.

Notes:
- SNHU has now won 26 of its last 30, including 19 of 21 and 16 of 18.
- The Penmen win their 30th game in a campaign for the sixth straight season.
- In his last four outings, Stearns is 4-0 with a 1.69 ERA over 32 innings, allowing 20 hits to hold opponents to a .180 average, while striking out 26 and walking just one.
- Stearns has not walked a batter in his last 20 innings.
- With his sixth-inning infield single, Goldstein became just the second player in program history to reach the 200-hit plateau in a career.
