Second-Half Offensive Explosion Sends Women's Soccer Past Post, 4-0

Box Score

When and Where: September 7, 2016 – Manchester, N.H. (Larkin Field)
Score:
Southern New Hampshire University 4, Post University 0
Records: SNHU 2-1-0, Post 0-2-0

Junior Abigail Maker (Naples, Maine) snapped a scoreless deadlock in the 66th minute and simultaneously opened the floodgates as a four-goal barrage in the second half led the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team to a 4-0 blanking of Post University on Wednesday at Larkin Field.

Junior Sydney Crema (Litchfield, N.H.) scored a goal and an assist, while sophomore Danielle Humphreys (Hebron, Conn.) added a pair of helpers.

The Penmen controlled the first half, outshooting the Eagles, 10-0, but could not crack the scoreboard until Maker received a pass from right-to-left across the box from sophomore Nerida Montrond (Brockton, Mass.) and sent a shot inside the right post 65:21 in.

Southern New Hampshire doubled the lead nearly nine minutes later when Crema chipped a quick pass from the left flank into the left side of the box for junior Tia Woodarek (Springville, N.Y.), who popped the ball into the back of the net with a left-footed shot that made it 2-0 early in the 75th minute.

Crema then netted a goal of her own just 1:11 later, taking a pass from Humphreys before streaking down the left sideline and sending a long diagonal shot that ricocheted off the right post and barely broke the plane of the goalmouth.

SNHU added a tremendous exclamation point with 2:06 to play in the match when Humphreys sent a cross into the box from the right that was finished off by freshman Hannah Chick (Amherst, N.H.), who headed the ball inside the left post to make it 4-0.

Notes:
- Junior goalkeeper Paige Salmon (W. Hempstead, N.Y.) was not tested as she was credited with her first shutout of 2016. Cailah Baranowski made nine saves for Post.
- The Penmen held massive advantages in both shots (24-0) and corner kicks (7-0).
- Combined with Sunday's 4-1 win against Mercy, this marks the first time Southern New Hampshire has scored four goals in back-to-back games since Oct. 8-15, 2011 when the Penmen struck four times in three consecutive matches against Adelphi University, Saint Michael's College and Le Moyne College.

The Penmen return to action Saturday, Sept. 10 (2 p.m.) when they take on the College of Saint Rose. The next home game for the Penmen is Wednesday, Sept. 14 (7 p.m.) when they play host to American International College under the lights at Larkin.
