Graduate student Abla Chadli (Rabat, Morocco), sophomores Sofia Morais (Porto, Portugal) and Rachel Wagner (Framingham, Mass.) and junior Lindsay Baum (N. Salem, N.Y.) all won their singles matches without dropping a game as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team recorded an 8-1 victory against the University of New Haven on Sunday afternoon at the SNHU Tennis Courts.
Chadli beat Caitlyn Burridge, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while Morais did the same to Ashely Varrone at No. 2 singles. Wagner defeated Lauryn Burridge, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4 singles, with Baum earning an 8-0 pro set victory over Kristen McCormick at No. 5 singles.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Poje (E. Stroudsburg, Pa.) was also victorious at No. 3 singles for the Penmen with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph against Sarah Burzin.
The Penmen set the tone with a sweep of doubles play. Morais teamed with classmate Anna Sala (Matadepera, Spain) for an 8-2 win against Caitlyn Burridge and Angela Mercurio at No. 1 doubles, Wagner and Baum took down Burzin and Shelby Clyne, 8-3, at No. 2 doubles and Poje combined with junior Jacqueline Youngdahl (N. Providence, R.I.) for an 8-0 blanking of McCormick and Varrone at No. 3 doubles.
Notes:
- Chadli improves to a perfect 8-0 at No. 1 singles this year, while Baum and Wagner are now 8-0 in doubles play.
- Baum has won 16 of 17 Northeast-10 singles matches dating back to last season.
