Men's Tennis Improves to 6-0 in Northeast-10 Play With 9-0 Win vs. Assumption

The Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team won for the fifth time in six matches with a 9-0 victory against Assumption College on Saturday afternoon at the SNHU Tennis Courts.

Sophomores Tiago Fernandes (Porto, Portugal) and Miguel Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) got things started on the right foot with an 8-5 No. 1 doubles win before fellow sophomores Ricardo Marreiros (Portimao, Portugal) and Xavier Aubron (Herouville, France), as well as freshman Max Georgeff (Toronto, Ontario) and sophomore Jeremy Reichentahl (Cheshire, Conn.), posted 8-0 triumphs at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.

Ricardo Marreiros began singles play with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win against Chris Waung in the No. 1 slot, while Miguel Marreiros lost the first set of his No. 2 singles match against Ryan Foster, 6-3, but, despite battling an injury, rallied to win the final two sets, 6-1, 6-4.

Aubron also needed three sets to capture his No. 3 singles match against Marco Leung, as he posted a 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) victory. It was quite the opposite at No. 4 singles, with Fernandes blanking Casey Hodor, 6-0, 6-0.

Reichentahl earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Tom Knight at No. 5 singles, with Georgeff cruising to an 8-1 victory against Mike Giampietro as No. 6 singles.

Notes:
-Foster had been 7-1 in singles play, including a perfect 4-0 against NE-10 foes, before losing to Miguel Marreiros.
-Southern New Hampshire is 10th in the latest Oracle/ITA Division II East Rankings.
-Ricardo Marreiros, Miguel Marreiros and Aubron are all ranked inside the top 20 among singles players in the region at 10th, 12th and 15th, respectively. Ricardo Marreiros and Aubron are the eighth-ranked doubles team in the region.

The Penmen are back in action Tuesday, April 12 (3:30 p.m.) when they take on Stonehill College. The next home match for the Penmen is Saturday, April 16 (1 p.m.) when they play host to Franklin Pierce University.
