Score:
New Hampshire University 16, Saint Michael's 0

Senior Tim Viehoff (Derry, N.H.) pitched seven spectacular innings and freshman Kevin Alexy (Newton, Mass.) drove in a career-high four runs as the 10th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team rolled over Saint Michael's College, 16-0, Thursday afternoon at Penmen Field.

Southern New Hampshire grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a sacrifice fly to right from junior Derek Bauer (Millis, Mass.) and an Alexy RBI groundout. SNHU made it 3-0 in the third when sophomore Sean Webster (Boston, Mass.) yanked a ball over the fence in left to lead off the inning for his second home run of the season. The Penmen pushed their lead to 4-0 in the fourth when Bauer doubled to center and came around to score on Alexy's single to center.

SNHU broke the game wide open in the fifth with a seven-run inning in which it sent 13 men to the plate and knocked out seven hits. Junior Zach Goldstein (Merrick, N.Y.) started it with a leadoff single through the left side before stealing second and scoring on an RBI single up the middle by graduate student Mike Mastroberti (Ramsey, N.J.).

An RBI single to left from junior Carson Helms (Farmington, Conn.) and Bauer's run-scoring groundout ran the score to 7-0 before Alexy's two-run single back up the middle brought the inning's fourth and fifth runs across the plate. RBI singles from Goldstein and fellow junior Manny Cruz (Wolcott, Conn.) capped the scoring and made it 11-0.

A sac fly to center by sophomore Matt Rabbito (Chelmsford, Mass.) in the sixth brought in run No. 12 and Viehoff would have more than enough run support.

For good measure, the Penmen set off fireworks in the eighth as freshman John Stanton (Sandwich, Mass.) crushed a two-run shot over the fence in center and senior Lorenzo Papa (Stoneham, Mass.) followed by absolutely launching a ball halfway up the trees in left for back-to-back jacks that stretched the lead to 15-0. Freshman Christian Aybar (Cranston, R.I.) closed the scoring with an RBI groundout to short.

Viehoff (5-0, 2.28 ERA) was downright dominant, allowing just two hits, while punching out 13 and walking one over seven scoreless frames. Freshman Connor Gavin (E. Bridgewater, Mass.) recorded a strikeout in two-thirds of an inning of work, while senior Joe McCarthy (Nashua, N.H.) and sophomore Jake Walkinshaw (Seymour, Conn.) each struck out both batters they faced in two-thirds of an inning.

Alexy was 2-for-3 with a run and four RBI, while Mastroberti was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Helms went 2-for-5, scored twice and a drove in a run, with Goldstein going 2-for-6 with a run and an RBI.

Notes:
- The Penmen have won four of their last five.
- Southern New Hampshire has now posted four shutouts of 14 runs or more this season.
- SNHU now has six shutouts this season – the most since it tallied up six during the 2013 season.

- Cruz has recorded a hit in 14 of his last 15 games.
- Gavin has not allowed a run in six-and-a-third innings, spanning six appearances, to begin his career.
