Seniors Katie Caruso (Newton, Mass.) and Mo Hannan (Scarborough, Maine) each collected five hits, and sophomore Sarah Lavallee (Candia, N.H.) twirled a complete-game one-hitter to lift No. 20 Southern New Hampshire University to a sweep of Minnesota State University Moorhead and the New York Institute of Technology in nonconference softball action at Foundation Academy in Winter Garden, Florida on Wednesday. The Penmen posted a 3-0 victory over the Dragons in game one before topping the Bears, 9-5, in game two.

Caruso finished the twinbill 5-for-7 with a double, RBI and two runs scored, while Hannan turned in a 5-for-8 performance that included three runs scored and an RBI. Lavallee took the ball in the opener and improved to 4-1 on the year after striking out six, walking none and surrendering just one single.

Southern New Hampshire provided the reigning Northeast-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week with all the offense she would need in the bottom of the third on freshman Erin Garczynski's (Norwood, Mass.) run scoring single. Hannan reached on a two-out base knock before classmate Lindsey Bolduc (Londonderry, N.H.) drew a walk to put two aboard. Garczynski followed with a sharp single through the right side to bring in Hannan and stake the Penmen to a 1-0 advantage.

The score remained the same until the sixth when SNHU tacked on a pair of insurance runs. Garczynski led off the frame with a double to the wall in straightaway centerfield, and Caruso tagged a single up the middle before advancing to second on a throw into third. Two pitches later, sophomore pinch runner Kailey March (East Taunton, Mass.) scampered across the plate on a wild pitch and after back-to-back groundouts, junior Jessica Torsiello (Morris Plains, N.J.) shot a base hit into right that scored Caruso to make it 3-0.

In Wednesday's finale the Penmen jumped out to an early lead with a three-run, two-out rally in the top of the first. Bolduc reach on a one-out single before Caruso added one of her own two batters later. Torsiello stepped in next and pounded a pitch into the dirt that bounced over the NYIT third baseman and into left field, which allowed Bolduc to cruise in from second and move Caruso up to third. Junior Erin Morrissey (Commack, N.Y.) added an infield single to plate Caruso, and an errant throw on the play let Torsiello come all the way around from second with the game's third run.

After the Bears went silent in their half of the first, Southern New Hampshire went back to work in the second and added another two-out run. A single followed by back-to-back fielder's choices put a runner on first with two away for Bolduc. She took a 1-0 offering and smashed a double off the 225-foot sign in straightaway center to score Hannan and make it 4-0.

NYIT responded in the bottom of the inning with three runs to trim the Penmen lead to one, and tied the game in the fourth. Katie Bejarano-Moreno reached on a two-out single in the third before Amber Butenhoff walked and Tori Duquette added a knock to load the bases. All-three runs would come in on the very next pitch, as Kat Zabielski launched a double down the left field line to clear the bags. Bejarano-Moreno came up again in the fourth, this time with runners on second and third and two away, and was the beneficiary of a Southern New Hampshire miscue that allowed Josephine Santagata to come in with the tying run.

The deadlock was short-lived, however, as SNHU answered with the go-ahead run in its trip to the plate. Garczynski singled up the middle with two outs and Bolduc on first, and when she rounded second in an attempt to reach third, the throw from centerfield sailed into the Bears' dugout and pushed the Penmen ahead, 5-4.

Southern New Hampshire put the game out of reach in the sixth with a four-run outburst to extend its advantage to five. Lavallee led things off by reaching on an error before sophomore Katie Horiuchi (Livingston, N.J.) moved pinch runner Dianna Jamgochian (Arlington, Mass.) to second with a sacrifice bunt. After Hannan singled home Jamgochian, Bolduc hammered a double to the gap in the left-center that scored Hannan. A Garczynski walk put runners on first and second for Caruso, who shot a double to right-center and made it 8-4. Torsiello followed with a base hit up the middle to cap the Penmen scoring. NYIT would add a run in the sixth to provide the final margin of victory.

Bolduc led the SNHU offense in game two with three hits in five trips to the plate, two doubles, two runs batted in and three runs scored. Caruso and Hannan also recorded three hits against the Bears, while Torsiello finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Sophomore Stephanie Martin (Milford, Mass.) earned her first career victory in the finale after going 4.2 innings and allowing just one run on five hits with a strikeout. Junior Nicole Gubellini (Salem, N.H.) started in the circle for the Penmen, and was charged with four runs (three earned), six hits, three walks and one punch out.

Notes:
- After managing just nine hits in two games on Tuesday, Southern New Hampshire pounded out 24 hits in Wednesday's doubleheader. The Penmen held an 8-1 edge in hits during game one and outslugged NYIT, 16-11, in game two.
- Caruso heads back from the sunshine state leading SNHU with a .500 batting average and 17 hits, while Bolduc is slugging a team-high .757 and has nine of the Penmen's 18 extra-base hits thus far.
- Lavallee has gone the distance in each of her five starts this season and has a 27/2 strikeout-to-walk ratio as well as a 1.09 ERA.
