Assumption College scored four times in the second half to earn a 4-0 victory over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey play at Larkin Field on Wednesday night. The Greyhounds, ranked No. 7 in the most recent National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll, improve to 9-3 and 6-0 in league play while the Penmen shift to 2-10 and 0-7 in the NE-10.
After a scoreless first half in which Southern New Hampshire sophomore goalkeeper Jill Piacitelli (East Greenwich, R.I.) stopped six shots, Assumption was able to get on the scoreboard just under four minutes into the second. Maria Beatrice gave the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead when she pushed a rebound across the goal line at 3:56.
Taylor Chase doubled the Assumption lead 15:32 into the half before Beatrice again found the back of the cage 3:31 later. Amanda Frank capped the game's scoring with 30 seconds remaining off a penalty corner.
Piacitelli stopped six shots in the second half and totaled 12 saves for the game. Her counterpart, Bridget Boyle, turned aside a pair of Penmen attempts to earn the shutout.
Notes:
- The Greyhounds held a 28-5 advantage in shots and a 16-2 edge in shots on goal.
- Southern New Hampshire trailed 8-4 in penalty corners for the game.
- Sophomores Amaris Taylor (Tulsa, Okla.) and Erin Frost (Andover, N.H.) each recorded a shot on goal for the Penmen.
What's Next:
Southern New Hampshire remains idle until Tuesday, Oct. 13 when it travels to Saint Michael's College for a 3:30 contest with the Purple Knights.
