COLCHESTER, Vt. – Trailing 2-1 after doubles, Saint Michael's College rallied to post a 5-4 Northeast-10 women's tennis victory over Southern New Hampshire University Sunday afternoon at the Tarrant Recreation Center. The Purple Knights improved to 9-7 and 7-3 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 12-6 and 8-3 in league play.
With the match tied 4-4, the hosts clinched the match as Alexandra Sulkin claimed a dramatic three-set victory at No. 5 over Yolanda Green (Springfield, Mass.) as she prevailed 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 7-6 (8-6). The Penmen held a 4-1 lead after Jamie Hann (Westhampton, N.Y.) claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 and Diana Vamvakitis (Wading River, N.Y.) recorded a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1.
In doubles action, Vamvakitis and Sarah Schöllgen (Meerbusch, Germany) were 8-6 winners at No. 1, while Hann and Kirsten Jean (Bedford, N.H.) posted an 8-2 win at No. 2.
Southern New Hampshire closes out the regular season Thursday when it hosts league-leading Merrimack College in a 3:00 match at the SNHU courts.
