RINDGE, N.H. – Freshman Trisha Luis (Lowell, Mass.) (pictured) registered a goal and an assist to lead Southern New Hampshire University to a 4-0 women's soccer win over Caldwell College in the second round of the Franklin Pierce Tournament Sunday afternoon at Sodexo Field. The Penmen upped their record to 2-0 with the win, while the Cougars are now 1-1.
Southern New Hampshire took a 2-0 lead into halftime by scoring twice in the final 3:22 of the first half. Alyssa Balboni (East Longmeadow, Mass.) got the Penmen on the board in the 42nd minute by heading home a pass from Jennifer Arnold (South Burlington, Vt.) into the upper right corner. Luis notched her first collegiate goal 33 seconds before intermission when she booted home a rebound off a free kick attempt by classmate Alexa Poulin (Tewksbury, Mass.).
Gabby Cappello (Andover, Mass.) made it a 3-0 game in the 69th minute when she put home a rebound into the lower right corner, with Luis credited with an assist. Ashley Jaskula (Palmer, Mass.) closed out the scoring just past the 83-minute mark with an unassisted tally after she dribbled down the left side and fired a low shot past Caldwell keeper Kylie Whalen.
Samantha Whittier (Sutton, Mass.) made three saves in goal for her second shutout of the season and sixth-straight clean sheet dating back to last season. She has not allowed a goal in her last 625:49 of action. Whalen registered two stops as the Penmen outshot the Cougars 15-6.
SNHU returns to action Wednesday night when it travels to the University of Bridgeport for a 6:00 non-conference contest.
