Box Score 2 MANCHESTER, N.H. – No. 19 Southern New Hampshire University scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally for a 4-3, seven-inning win over Felician College in the nightcap of a non-conference baseball doubleheader Sunday at Penmen Field. SNHU improves to 33-16 overall, while the Golden Falcons, who posted a 14-2 win in the opener, are now 19-30.
Trailing 3-2 entering the sixth, Jamie Wollerman (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) led off the inning with a double, his second of the game and fourth of the doubleheader. Wollerman moved to third on a groundout by Tyler Poisson (Rochester, N.H.) and was lifted for pinch runner Kyle McGinnity (Northboro, Mass.). McGinnity scored on a single up the middle by Brendan O'Brien (East Bridgewater, Mass.). Andrew Pezzuto (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.) drove in the go-ahead run as he lifted a triple deep to the gap in left-center.
Felician took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third, but the Penmen tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. Jon Minucci (Madison, Conn.) singled with one away, and after moving to second on a wild pitch, scored on a Wollerman double. SNHU tied the game when O'Brien's single plated Wollerman, but the Golden Falcons scored an unearned run in the fifth to reclaim the lead, 3-2.
Derrick Sylvester (Franklin, N.H.) went the distance in the nightcap, allowing four hits and three runs (one earned) while striking out 12 with one walk. O'Brien was 3-3 with a walk and stole four bases while Wollerman had a pair of hits. Jack Fowler, the final of five pitchers used by Felician, was tagged with the loss. Gabriel Fellin had two hits to pace the guests.
In the opener, SNHU led 2-0 early after single runs in the first and second innings. In the first, Al Stanton (Sandwich, Mass.) singled to knock in Pezzuto, who singled and stole second. In the second, a Wollerman double plated Minucci, who reached on an error.
Felician got a run back in the top of the third, then sent 14 men to the plate in the sixth, scoring 10 runs on eight hits and two Penmen errors against four Southern New Hampshire pitchers. The Golden Falcons plated five runs before SNHU recorded an out in the frame. Felician added three runs in the top of the ninth.
Aaron Brill was 4-6 with two RBI in the opener to lead Felician as it outhit SNHU 14-8. Jordan Tackett finished with three hits, while Chris Faber was 2-4 with three RBI. Matthew Facendo, who entered the game in relief to start the fifth, got the win for the guests.
Stanton, Wollerman and Riley Palmer (Goffstown, N.H.) each had two hits for Southern New Hampshire. Tyler Gauthier (Lynn, Mass.) took the loss on the mound, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out six in five-plus innings.
Southern New Hampshire opens the postseason Tuesday afternoon when the second-seeded Penmen travel to No. 2 Bentley University in the first round of the Northeast-10 Championship. Game time at DeFelice Field is set for 2:00 pm.
