PREVIEW: Baseball Hosts Merrimack for Three-Game Set This Weekend

THE MATCHUP: Southern New Hampshire hosts Merrimack College for a three-game series Saturday and Sunday.

THE COACHES: Scott Loiseau is in his fifth season as head coach at SNHU...Loiseau, a 2002 graduate of Franklin Pierce, guided the Penmen to the Division II College World Series last season...he owns a 122-98-2 (.554) career record...Jim Martin is in his third season at Merrimack...a former player at St. John's, he spent four seasons as an assistant at Southern Connecticut and two at Saint Anselm.

THE SERIES:Merrimack holds a 32-22 lead in the all-time series with Southern New Hampshire...the Penmen have won seven straight in the series, including three meetings in North Andover last season...SNHU won by scores of 7-1, 4-2 and 4-1 in a 15-inning affair.

THE PENMEN: Southern New Hampshire downed Saint Anselm 9-2 on Thursday night to take the season series with the Hawks...Andrew Pezzuto leads the Penmen offense with his .419 average...he has scored 34 runs, driven in 22 and is 32-43 on stolen base attempts on the season...Brendan O'Brien is batting .308 with 39 runs scored and 13 RBI...he has stolen 28 bases on the season (28-30) and became SNHU's all-time stolen base leader last week...Matt Boulter is batting .298 with a team-high 30 RBI with 17 stolen bases...Riley Palmer is hitting .290 with 22 RBI...Jon Minucci has six home runs and has driven in 28 runs...Minucci tied the SNHU career home record (19) last week...Junior Mendez leads the SNHU rotation with a 6-1 record and 1.34 ERA...he has struck out 80 in 60.1 innings of work and tossed a no-hitter on March 3...Jon Massad is 4-2 with a 1.44 ERA and threw a no-hitter on February 22, while Derrick Sylvester is 3-1 with a 1.41 ERA...Alex Powers has 27 strikeouts in 22 innings and is 1-0 with five saves.

THE WARRIORS: Merrimack is one of the most improved teams in the Northeast-10, sitting at 18-9 after going 17-32 a season ago...the Warriors have been idle since Wednesday when they fell to UMass Lowell 3-1...Casey Cotter is batting .432 with 16 runs batter in, while Eddie Newton is hitting .374...Frank Crinella is batting .368 with 18 RBI, while Mark O'Flynn is hitting .345...Joe Mantoni has knocked in a team-best 28 runs and is hitting .326, while Matt Brown is batting .296 with 26 RBI...Alex Morency leads the Merrimack rotation with a 3-2 record and 1.08 ERA in six starts...Tim Cashman is 2-1 with a 1.48 ERA, while Joe Carnevale is 4-0 with a 1.95 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 37 innings.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Penmen travel to Saint Michael's on Tuesday, then host Bentley for three games next weekend, one on Friday and a double dip on Saturday.
