Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – No. 10 Southern New Hampshire University wrapped up the outright Northeast-10 Conference regular season title with a 3-0 men's soccer victory over Le Moyne College on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field. The Penmen won their 14th straight game to improve to 14-1 overall and 12-0 in the NE-10, while the Dolphins are now 9-6 and 6-5 in the league.
SNHU's 14-game winning streak matches the second-longest in program history. The Penmen last won 14 straight in the 2011 season.
Southern New Hampshire got on the board just past the game's 20-minute mark. Junior Miguel Carneiro (New Milford, Conn.) collected a clear attempt by a Le Moyne defender following a long throw-in and fired it through a crowd past Dolphin keeper Matthew Silva for his second goal of the season. The Penmen made it 2-0 50 seconds before halftime when junior Joe Mahr (Fayetteville, N.Y.) popped a ball over the top of the defense that sophomore Ryan Simpson (Manchester, N.H.) put home for his third goal of the season.
Senior Pierre Omanga (Paris, France) made it 3-0 in the 61st minute when he stole the ball from a Le Moyne player at midfield, dribbled through two defenders, and fired into the left side for his 14th goal of 2013. Omanga has scored in each of the last four contests.
Senior Dom DiMaggio (Rome, N.Y.) played the first 81:25 in goal for Southern New Hampshire and made one save before giving way to Eddie Legg (Broadlands, Va.) who finished off the shutout and did not face a shot. Silva made four saves as the Penmen outshot the Dolphins 14-6.
Prior to the game, seniors Omanga, Brian Francolini (Ellington, Conn.) and Christian Rodriguez (Manchester, N.H.) were honored.
Southern New Hampshire closes out the regular season Friday, November 1, when it travels to The College of Saint Rose for a 5:00 Northeast-10 contest. The Penmen return home Tuesday, November 5 when they will host an NE-10 quarterfinal game, with opponent and game time yet to be determined.
