Box Score WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Southern New Hampshire University scored the game's final three goals en route to a 4-2 Northeast-10 women's soccer victory over the University of New Haven at Kayo Field Saturday evening. The Penmen improve to 10-5-3 overall and 8-4-3 in the NE-10, while the Chargers now stand 11-6-1 and 8-6-1 in the league.
The win, combined with other results around the league Saturday, gives the Penmen the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Tournament which kicks off Monday. Southern New Hampshire will host a quarterfinal against the Chargers, who dropped to the No. 6 seed, in a rematch, Game time for that game, along with the SNHU men's soccer team's NE-10 home quarterfinal against Southern Connecticut State also slated for Monday, will be announced Sunday.
Trailing 2-1 midway through the first half, Southern New Hampshire tied the game in the 31st minute when Morgan Branco (Norton, Mass.) scored on a feed from Ashley Jaskula (Palmer, Mass.) for her third goal of the season. The Penmen took the lead for good 1:13 later when freshman Sarah Waltsak (East Longmeadow, Mass.) notched her first collegiate goal.
Lexxi Carroll (Plainville, Conn.) tacked on an insurance goal for Southern New Hampshire with 6:21 remaining in regulation.
New Haven struck first, as Nicole Pacapelli recorded her seventh goal of the season in the game's 13th minute. The Charger lead was short-lived as Jaskula registered her seventh goal of the season just past the game's 15-minute mark. The hosts reclaimed the lead at 24:11 on a goal by Lucy Francisco.
Samantha Whittier (Sutton, Mass.) went the distance in goal for SNHU and made four saves, while New Haven keeper Natasha Purchla had five saves. Both teams recorded 10 shots on the evening.
