FOXBORO, Mass.—Christopher Gorowitz scored the game-winning goal with 3:13 remaining in the game to give the Stonehill Skyhawks the 6-5 Northeast-10 Conference ice hockey win over the visiting Southern New Hampshire University Penmen. With the win, the Skyhawks improve to 5-14-1 overall and 3-4-1 in NE-10 play, while the loss drops the Penmen to 4-15-2 overall and 2-7-1 in league play.
After one period of play, Stonehill held the 2-1 advantage. Stonehill scored first on a goal by Dana Borges 3:34 into to the game. The Penmen's Adam Ziegler (Medford, Mass.) would even it up 10:18 later on assists by Kevin Danie (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Tyler Pascucci (North Reading, Mass.). The Skyhawks would reclaim the lead with four minutes left in the first frame on a goal by John Yokow.
The Penmen would start the second period with back to back goals at the 10:31 and 11:28 marks from Pascucci and Brandon Bradley (Wichita, Kansas). Jeff Hall (Dracut, Mass.) recorded the assist on Pascucci's goal, while Craig Carbonneau (Medford, Mass.) and Michael Rotondi (Winchester, Mass.) tallied assists on Bradley's goal. Stonehill answered with an unassisted goal by Yokow to even the score at 3-3 at the 14:43 mark, but the Penmen would answer with two more second period goals by Hall and Brian Troy (Ashburnham, Mass.) to give the Penmen the 5-4 advantage entering the final period.
Stonehill would score twice in the third period to take the 6-5 advantage. Goals were credited to Bryan Rooney and Gorowitz.
Ryan Gleason (Westford, Mass.) went the distance in net for the Penmen and recorded 45 saves in the loss. Derek Chapdelaine played two periods in net for the Skyhawks and recorded 20 saves before giving way to Tyler Jackson who stopped 10 shots. The Skyhawks outshot the Penmen 51-35 on the evening.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action next Saturday, February 19, traveling to Assumption for the final regular season Northeast-10 matchup. Game time is slated for 4:35 p.m.
