BOSTON, Mass.—Freshman John Humphrey (Charlestown, Mass.) scored twice in the third period to lead the Southern New Hampshire University Penmen to a 3-2 comeback win in ice hockey against Suffolk University on Tuesday evening. With the win, the Penmen improve to 1-5-1 overall, while the loss drops the Rams to 2-5-0 overall.
Trailing 2-1 entering the third period, Humphrey would score at the 6:36 mark to even the score at 2-2. Michael Settipani (Charlestown, Mass.) and Frank O'Connor (Arlington, Mass.) assisted on the goal. The score would remain tied until there was 1:35 remaining in the game when Humphrey would score the game-winning goal on assists by Josef Danilchuk (Medford, Mass.) and Dane Caracino (Belmont, Mass.).
The Rams took the early 2-0 lead in the first period, as Charlie McGinnis and Nick Joseph scored at the 3:42 and 10:55 marks, respectively. SNHU's Charles Wisniewski (Strongsville, Ohio) would tally the first Penmen goal with 6:09 remaining in the first frame on assists by Settipani and Michael Slattery (Duxbury, Mass.). Both teams would battle to a scoreless second period.
Penmen goaltender Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) recorded 26 saves en route to the win. Rams netminder Cam Kelley posted 19 saves in the loss, as the Rams outshot the Penmen 28-22 on the evening. The Penmen finished 1-for-3 on the power play, while Suffolk did not score on the power play in six attempts.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Saturday on the opening day of the PAL Cup, facing the University of New England at 1:30 p.m. at the Ice Den.
