HOOKSETT, N.H.—The Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey team dropped a 4-3 Northeast-10 Conference decision to the Skyhawks of Stonehill College on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Penmen fall to 0-4-1 overall and 0-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play, while the win boosts the visiting Skyhawks to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in NE-10 action.
After a scoreless first period, SNHU's Charles Wisniewski (Strongsville, Ohio) would tally the first goal of the game 2:41 into the second frame. Michael Settipani (Charlestown, Mass.) and Tyler Pascucci (North Reading, Mass.) would assist on the goal. Stonehill would even the score at 1-1 2:09 later, as Oliver Williams scored from Christopher Gorovitz and Bill Carey.
SNHU would reclaim the lead 15 seconds later as Pascucci scored his first goal of the season, assisted by Settipani and Michael Slattery (Duxbury, Mass.).
Stonehill's Kevin Aufiero would respond with back-to-back goals at the 7:58 and 16:22 marks to give the Skyhawks the 3-2 advantage. A goal by Garrett Lessard at the 17:15 mark would put the Skyhawks up by two goals entering the third period.
The final frame would remain scoreless until only 1:43 remained in the period when John Humphrey (Charlestown, Mass.) scored, assisted by Chris Hickey (Gilford, N.H.) and TJ Bond (Nashua, N.H.), to bring the Penmen within one.
SNHU goaltender Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) recorded 37 saves for the Penmen. Stonehill goaltender Chris Tasiopoulos stopped 20 shots en route to his second-straight win. The Skyhawks outshot the Penmen 41-23 on the evening.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Franklin Pierce University for a 3:00 p.m. Northeast-10 Conference matchup.
