BOX SCORE

EASTON, Mass. - Kelsey Simonds totaled 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead No. 21 Stonehill College to a 64-44 Northeast-10 women's basketball win over Southern New Hampshire University Saturday afternoon at Merkert Gymnasium.  The Skyhawks improved to 8-2 and 4-0 in the NE-10, while the Penmen are now 5-4 and 3-2 in the league.

Simonds also finished with five blocked shots.  Emily Rousseau was the other Skyhawk in double figures as she finished with 10 points and six assists.

Libby Cullerot (Henniker, N.H.) led Southern New Hampshire with 11 points as she connected on all three of her three-point attempts.  Jenny McDade (Derry, N.H.) totaled nine points and eight rebounds, while Megan Spanarkel (Tinton Falls, N.J.) added seven points.  Christine Duffy (South Boston, Mass.) handed out eight assists for the Penmen.

Duffy gave the Penmen a 2-0 lead a minute into the game, but that would be SNHU's only lead of the game, as Stonehill opened up a 17-4 lead 6:22 into the game following a three by Rousseau.  Southern New Hampshire chipped away at the Skyhawk lead, and a layup by Spanarkel with 5:33 left made it a 26-19 game.  The hosts answered with a 6-0 run and opened up a 32-19 lead with just under four minutes left in the first half, and took a 38-25 lead into the locker room.

Southern New Hampshire opened the second half on a 7-1 run and a conventional three-point play by McDade with 16:36 to play cut the Stonehill lead to seven, 39-32.  The Skyhawks countered with an 9-1 spurt to open up a 49-33 lead with 12:20 left on a basket by Simonds.  The hosts maintained at least a 12-point lead the rest of the way.

The Skyhawks held the Penmen to 23.1% shooting in the second half and 32% for the game, while Stonehill was 15-29 (51.7%) from the floor in the first half.  Stonehill outrebounded the Penmen 45-31.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Tuesday night when it hosts Merrimack College in a 5:30 contest at the SNHU Fieldhouse.
