Women's Tennis Stays Sizzling with 5-2 Win Over Assumption

Sophomore Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) won both of her matches to help lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team to a 5-2 victory over Assumption College on Tuesday afternoon at the Penmen Stadium Tennis Courts.

  • Etienne defeated Camille Latoni, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3 singles, and also posted a 6-2 win with freshman Magdalena Hubickova (Prague, Czech Republic) at No. 1 doubles over Julia Chappell and Maria Monje.
  • Freshman Isabella Andrade (Cochabama, Bolivia) and sophomore Elizabeth Dwyer (Cutchogue, N.Y.) also won both of their matches, beginning with a 6-0 blanking of Veronica Op and Ana Escudero at No. 3 doubles.
  • Andrade won her No. 5 singles match with Escudero, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).
  • Dwyer was a 6-2, 6-4 victor against Op at No. 6 singles.
  • Freshman Selin Seyfettinoglu (Wiesbaden, Germany) also earned a point for the Penmen, toppling Monje, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 2 singles.
  • Hubickova suffered her first singles loss of the season in dual-match play, while Andrade remains undefeated at 7-0.
  • The Penmen return to action Saturday, Oct. 5 (12 p.m.) when they take on Stonehill College.
  • The next home match for SNHU is Sunday, Oct. 6 (1 p.m.) when it plays host to Saint Michael's College at the Penmen Stadium Tennis Courts.
