MANSFIELD, Mass. – Freshman Magdalena Hubickova (Prague, Czech Republic) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team was crowned both the Northeast-10 Player and Rookie of the Week for the period ending Sept. 22, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Fresh off a march to the finals of the ITA East Regional Championship singles bracket, Hubickova opened the dual-match season by going 5-1, including a perfect 3-0 at No. 1 singles. Hubickova blanked Saint Anselm College's Kaitlin Hughes, 6-0, 6-0, Tuesday, then made quick work of American International College's Meri Jimeno, 6-1, 6-1, Saturday, before toppling Adelphi University's Barbie Quagliardi on Sunday, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. Hubickova also teamed with sophomore Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) at No. 1 doubles to double-up Hughes and Emily Jacy, 6-3, and blank Jimeno and Mikaela Johnson, 6-0. The lone loss was to Quagliardi and Nicole Keilan, 6-7 (3-10).
Hubickova and the Penmen return to action Wednesday, Sept. 25 (3 p.m.) when they head to Bentley University.
