MANSFIELD, Mass. – Freshman Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team was selected as the Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year on Wednesday, as the conference announced its end-of-the-year awards.
Etienne, who also made the All-Conference First Team at No. 3 singles and earned an All-Rookie Team nod, finished her first season with the Penmen 11-3, overall, including 9-2 against conference foes. The three-time NE10 Rookie of the Week (Sept. 18, Sept. 25, Oct. 16) is the fourth Rookie of the Year for the Penmen and first since Diana Vamvakitis in 2012.
Seniors Anna Sala (Matadepera, Spain) and Sofia Morais (Porto, Portugal) received First Team recognition at No. 1 doubles for the second straight year after producing a 12-2 mark, including 10-1 in league play.
Individually, Morais, the Sept. 11 NE10 Player of the Week, was a Third Team selection at No. 2 singles, where she went 10-3 this season, including 8-2 in NE10 action.
