Morais Tabbed as Northeast-10 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week


MANSFIELD, Mass. Senior Sofia Morais (Porto, Portugal) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team was picked as the Northeast-10 Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 10, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.

Morais went 4-0 in a 1-1 week for the Penmen, with two wins at No. 2 singles and another pair at No. 1 doubles. Morais was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Colby-Sawyer College's Maddy Gemerek, as part of a 5-4 victory Wednesday, before breezing past Merrimack College's Lauren Persson, 6-3, 6-0, Saturday. She also teamed with classmate Anna Sala (Matadepera, Spain) to double up CSC's Yashu Yang and Anna Kopituk, 8-4, and record a 6-2 victory over the Warriors' Mana Seifaei and Kristina Calistro.

Morais is 2-1 on the young season in both singles and doubles play.

Morais and the Penmen return to action Sept. 14-16 at the ITA East Regional Championships. The next home match for SNHU is Tuesday, Sept. 18 (3 p.m.) when it plays host to Bentley University in NE10 action.
