Sophomore Miranda Peloquin (Greenville, R.I.) scored her second game-winning goal in the last three matches to lift the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory against Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field.
After the Owls tied the match late in the 69th minute, Peloquin answered just 2:03 later when she touched down a cross from junior Sydney Crema (Litchfield, N.H.) on the left side of the box and beat Southern Connecticut goalkeeper Gabrielle Arruda to put the Penmen on top, 2-1.
Southern New Hampshire collected the game's first goal exactly seven minutes in as junior Courtney Benson (Hopkinton, N.H.) sent a cross from right-to-left into the box for freshman Emily Roan (Bridgewater, Mass.), who settled the ball and fired it into the left side of the net to make it 1-0.
The game stayed that way through the first half until Southern Connecticut jumped on the board at the 68:50 mark. Meaghan Howard sent a corner service from the left that was headed down on the right side of the box by Christine Allard before Caroline Staudle popped it into the right side of the net to even the score. The tie would be short-lived, however, as Peloquin potted her second big goal in a week.
- Senior goalkeeper Autumn Scanlon (Waltham, Mass.) stopped three of the four shots she faced, while Arruda did not make a save for the Owls.
- Southern Connecticut edged Southern New Hampshire in shots, 6-5, and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
- Peloquin scored the overtime game winner in the 95th minute on Sept. 10 to send the Penmen to a 3-2 win at the College of Saint Rose.
The Penmen return to action Monday, Sept. 19 (6 p.m.) when they close out non-conference play against Bridgeport University. The next home game for the Penmen is Wednesday, Sept. 28 (4 p.m.) when they play host to Bentley University at Larkin.
