Sophomore Alexa Bedell (Londonderry, N.H.) scored three times, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's lacrosse team had its three-game winning streak snapped with a 16-8 loss to crosstown-rival Saint Anselm College on Tuesday evening in a Queen City Cup matchup at Larkin Field.

In addition to Bedell's three-goal performance, freshman Kristin Wilder (Framingham, Mass.) scored twice, while senior Alexa Allen (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Casey Duggan (Framingham, Mass.) each recorded a goal and an assist.

Caitlin Villareal scored twice in the first 3:21 of the contest to spark a 5-1 run that spanned the opening 11:04 for Saint Anselm. Bedell, who had already scored the lone Southern New Hampshire goal, struck two more times 1:20 apart to trim the deficit to a pair, but Molly Beck closed the first-half scoring at the 9:12 mark to send the Hawks to the break with a 6-3 advantage.

Villareal kicked off the second-half scoring off a feed from Marta Versprille just 1:24 in and then returned the favor to Versprille 1:38 later to push the lead to 8-3. Duggan scored on a free-position shot at the 25:38 mark, but Saint Anselm would pot five of the next six goals – with Villareal scoring twice and handing out an assist – to stretch the lead to 13-5 with 13:52 remaining.

Junior Ellen Decker (Foxborough, Mass.) would stop the bleeding with a free-position tally at the 10:36 mark, but goals from Villareal and Erin Marshall would nudge the lead to 15-6 with 4:50 to play. Allen would set up Wilder at 3:40 and score one of her own with 17 seconds left to close the scoring.
