#22 Softball Sweeps Molloy College Wednesday

Game 1:  SNHU 2 Molloy 1
Junior Maddy Barone (Halifax, Mass.) pitched her second consecutive three-hitter in a 2-1 win.  She came within one out of her second shutout in three days, but the Lions pushed a run across with two outs in the top of the seventh.   Barone finished with nine strikeouts, she did not walk a batter, improving to 4-1 in her seven starts.

Both runs for the Penmen scored in the bottom of the fourth inning.  With Barone on base after a fielder's choice, junior Erin Tyrrell (Milford, N.H.) singled. Freshman Chloe Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) singled to make it 1-0, and freshman Jenna McDonough (Abington, Mass.) followed with another single for the other run.

Sophomore Emily Critch (Halifax, Mass.) went 3-for-3 in the game, senior Erin Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.) added two hits.  McDonough also had two hits for SNHU.

Game 2:  SNHU 5 Molloy 1
Freshman Emily Carbonneau (Lowell, Mass.) homered to center field in the top of the first inning of the second game to put the Penmen up 2-0.  The blast, her third of the season, plated senior Erin Garczynski (Norwood, Mass.), who had singled.

Critch started the top of the fourth inning with a single, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior Logan Filo-Loos (Dudley, Mass.).  Sophomore Jackie Gavin (Laconia, N.H.) singled, moving Critch to third base.  Junior Gabriella Vachon (Newton, Mass.) then ripped a three-run homer to give SNHU a 5-0 lead. 

Chloe Griffin (1-0) pitched a complete-game in her second start of the Florida trip.  She allowed nine hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out three.  The only Lion run of the game was a home run by second baseman Kaitlyn Snyder in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Notes:

- Southern New Hampshire stands at 5-3 on the Florida trip.  
- Vachon leads the Penmen with four home runs, and 12 RBI.
- Garczynski is hitting .458 after a 5-for-7 day at the plate.  She is now 22-for-48 on the season. 
- Barone lowered her ERA to 1.71 and has 39 strikeouts in 49 innings pitched.
- The Penmen have hit 15 home runs this season, and allowed only three.

What's Next:
- The Penmen will take Thursday off, returning to the diamond on Friday at 9:15am to play a doubleheader with West Chester University.  The Florida swing concludes with two games on Saturday.
- The first scheduled home game for the Penmen will be Sunday, March 24, with a doubleheader against Queens College.
