Men’s Basketball Picked to Finish Fifth in NE10 Northeast Division

MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team was selected to place fifth in the Northeast Division of the Northeast-10 Conference, according to the NE10 Preseason Coaches Poll that was released by the conference office Thursday.

The Penmen totaled 56 points, while Saint Anselm College used 13 of a possible 14 first-place votes to gather 111 points and finish first. Merrimack College claimed the remaining two first-place votes and 95 points to place second. Bentley University (86) and Stonehill College (78) slotted in third and fourth, respectively, while Assumption College (40), Franklin Pierce University (39) and Saint Michael's College (27) rounded out the poll.

Southern Connecticut State University was picked atop the Southwest Division with 93 points and nine first-place votes. The University of New Haven finished second with three first-place votes and 77 points, just ahead of defending NE10 Champion Le Moyne College, which collected a first-place vote and 71 points. The College of Saint Rose garnered the two remaining first-place votes and 67 points to place fourth, with Adelphi University (43), American International College (38) and Pace University (24) capping the poll.                                           

In his first year as head coach Jack Perri, takes over a team that went 15-12 a year ago and lost in the first round of the Northeast-10 Championship. Senior Daquaise Andrews (Queens, N.Y.) returns for his final season after ranking second on the team last year in scoring (17.9 ppg), rebounding (7.9 rpg) and assists (3.1 apg), while pacing the squad with 1.9 steals per game. Classmate Charlie Russo (Syracuse, N.Y.) is also back after averaging 7.9 points and 2.3 rebounds per game during his first season in the starting lineup.

The Penmen tip off their season Saturday, Nov. 10 (4 p.m.) when they play host to the New York Institute of Technology at the Stan Spirou Fieldhouse.
