Graduate student Nick Artymowicz (Seaville, N.J.) tossed six strong innings in game one and freshman Cam Caraher (Plymouth, Mass.) went 3-for-4 in game two, but the 11th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team dropped a pair of games to Assumption University on Saturday. Assumption rallied to steal a 2-1 win in the opener at Rocheleau Field and then doubled up the Penmen, 10-5, in game two at Polar Park, the future home of the Worcester Red Sox, Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.

KEY MOMENTS - GAME 1
- Southern New Hampshire went in front, 1-0, in the top of the second on a two-out RBI single to center by redshirt-junior Idelson Taveras (Lawrence, Mass.).
- Artymowicz carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, where he ran into trouble. A hit-by-pitch, walk and a sacrifice bunt put a pair of runners in scoring position with one out, before a two-run single from Derek Adamson leapfrogged the Greyhounds in front, 2-1. Another single put two on, but Artymowicz induced a 4-6-3 inning-ending double play.
- The Penmen went 1-2-3 in the seventh to end it.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE - GAME 1
- Redshirt-junior Dakota Mulcay (Goffstown, N.H.) was 1-for-2 with a double, walk and a run scored.
- Taveras (RBI) and redshirt-freshman Christian Mercedes (Providence, R.I.) were both 1-for-3.
KEY MOMENTS - GAME 2
- Assumption jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and led, 3-0, when it struck for six runs in the fourth to open up a 9-0 lead. Another run in the fifth made it 10-0.
- SNHU slashed its deficit in half with five runs in the eighth. Grad student Marcus Chavez (Queens, N.Y.) started it with a two-run triple, before scoring on a wild pitch. RBI singles from Caraher and Reagan pulled the Penmen within 10-5, but they would leave the bases loaded.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE - GAME 2
- Caraher was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
- Reagan went 2-for-4 with a double and knocked in a run.
- Redshirt-junior Sam Henrie (Middleboro, Mass.), redshirt-sophomore Matthew Crisci (Hainesport, N.J.; run) and redshirt-sophomore Alex Kennedy (Braintree, Mass.; walk) were all 1-for-2.
- Redshirt-freshman Danniel Rivera (New Britain, Conn.) finished 1-for-3 with a double, two walks and a run.
- Graduate student Joshua Goldstein (Haverhill, Mass.) was 2-for-4 with three steals.
- Chavez went 1-for-5 with a triple, two RBI and a run.
- Redshirt-freshman Nick Assad (Franklin, Mass.; 0-1) allowed three runs on three hits, while striking out a pair and walking three, over two-and-a-third innings of his first career start.
- Redshirt-junior Scott Webster (Newburyport, Mass.) was charged with two runs on a hit and a three walks, striking out one, in two-thirds of an inning.
- Redshirt-freshman Daniel Owens (Ridge, N.Y.) gave up two runs on a pair of walks in a third of a frame.
- Grad student Tyler Fitzgerald (Peabody, Mass.) also tossed a third of an inning and relinquished two runs on four hits, while striking out a batter.
- Junior Taylor Lepard (Toronto, Ontario) allowed a run on four hits, striking out three and walking three, in four-and-a-third innings.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire, ranked 11th in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Poll, loses two games to an NE10 opponent on the same day for the first time since March 24, 2018 when it was swept at Pace University.
- SNHU still leads the all-time series with Assumption, 37-23-2, and had won 24 of the last 26 meetings entering the day.
- Mercedes had his eight-game hitting streak snapped in game two, while Rivera had his five-game hit streak halted in the first game.

- The top-seeded Penmen have a bye in the opening round of the NE10 Championship Tuesday (May 11) and will host the winner of fourth-seeded Assumpton and fifth-seeded Stonehill College on Thursday, May 13 (4 p.m.) in a divisional semifinal at Penmen Field.
