MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire University athletic department saw 249 of its student-athletes, representing all 19 programs, earn Northeast-10 Spring 2019 Academic Honor Roll recognition, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
In total, 3,560 NE10 student-athletes earned a grade point average of 3.0 or better, as the Academic Honor Roll members made up 60 percent of the total number of student-athletes from the 15 NE10 institutions. In addition, 87 percent of the member institutions had at least 50 percent of their total student-athlete population make the list.
The Academic Honor Roll – formerly the Commissioner's Honor Roll – acknowledges the commitment of NE10 student-athletes to excel in the classroom with three designations – Academic Excellence (4.0 GPA), Academic Distinction (3.50-3.99 GPA) and Academic Honors (3.00-3.49 GPA).
The 249 Penmen on the list accounted for 64 percent of Southern New Hampshire's athletes (392), with the department ranking second in the league with 30 athletes who achieved a 4.0 GPA (Academic Excellence). Merrimack College, which has 150 more student-athletes than SNHU, led the way with 38 perfect 4.0 GPAs.
In a sport-by-sport breakdown, the Penmen men's tennis, women's basketball and women's golf teams led the league with nine, 14 and seven selections, respectively, while baseball (27), men's ice hockey (22), men's soccer (20) and men's tennis (9) each placed second.
