Women’s Cross Country Runs 14th at NCAA Division II East Regional


When and Where: November 17, 2018 – Bethpage, N.Y. (Bethpage State Park Polo Field)
Result: Southern New Hampshire University – 14th/27 (184)

Junior Jill Couto (Newton Junction, N.H.) finished 10th overall and Southern New Hampshire came in 14th place among 27 teams competing at the NCAA Division II East Regionals on Saturday in Bethpage, N.Y.  Adelphi University was the host school for the championships.

Couto completed the 6k course in a time of 22:42.2, which was good enough for No. 10 overall in a field of 184 student-athletes.    

Junior Jill Dieterich (Commack, N.Y.) was the second Southern New Hampshire University student-athlete to cross the line, as she navigated the course in 23:43.7. Senior Ashley Dennis (Coventry, R.I.) followed in 25:43.0.   Freshman teammates Olivia Coco (Bedford, N.H.) and Ashley Corcoran (East Longmeadow, Mass.) came in together at 27:00.8 and 27:01.3.  

Only five runners were able to compete on Saturday with freshman Grace Henson (Cumberland, R.I.) and sophomore Maura Coakley (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) skipping the race due to illness.  

- Southern New Hampshire had finished 9th last season at the NCAA Regionals at Amherst, N.Y.  
- Stonehill College (58 points) edged second place Roberts Wesleyan (63 points) for the team title.  Merrimack College, Assumption College and the College of Saint Rose rounded out the top five.
