Le Moyne Sinks Women’s Tennis, 5-2

 Le Moyne 7-2 (6-1 NE10), SNHU 5-6 (4-4 NE10)

Seniors Anna Sala (Matadepera, Spain) and Sofia Morais (Porto, Portugal) each recorded two victories, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss to Le Moyne College on Saturday at the SNHU Tennis Courts at Penmen Stadium.


  • Sala notched a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles against Tiffany Hamdan.
  • Morais outlasted Birdem Oz, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 2 singles.
  • Sala and Morais teamed up for a 6-2 triumph against Hamdan and Oz at No. 1 doubles.


  • After losing at No. 3 doubles, the Penmen pulled even behind the win by Sala and Morais, but Le Moyne was victorious at No. 2 to secure the point and take a 1-0 lead.
  • The Dolphins went ahead, 3-0, with wins at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, before Sala and Morais trimmed the SNHU deficit to 3-2.
  • Freshman Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) battled to try and pull the Penmen even at No. 3 singles, but she fell, 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 6-3, to Caroline St. Antoine.
  • Le Moyne added a win for good measure, with Marta Nunez defeating senior Rachel Wagner (Framingham, Mass.), 5-7, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4.


  • The singles loss for Etienne snapped her nine-match winning streak.
  • The Penmen, who have now lost two straight, were once again without both their Nos. 1 and 5 singles players.


  • The Penmen are back in action Saturday, Oct. 13 (12 p.m.) when they take on Saint Michael's College.
