Women’s Tennis Squeezes By Adelphi, 4-3

Senior Anna Sala (Matadepera, Spain) won her pair of matches for the second time this weekend, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team edged Adelphi University, 4-3, Sunday at the Adelphi Tennis Courts.


  • Sala rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles against Nicole Kielan and also teamed with classmate Sofia Morais (Porto, Portugal) for a 6-1 triumph at No. 1 doubles over Kielan and Samantha Perri.


  • With juniors Phebe Hall (Bennington, Vt.) and Abbey Killiam (Rowley, Mass.) winning by default at No. 3 doubles and Adelphi recording a big victory at No. 2, it was Morais and Sala, who clinched the doubles point with their victory at No. 1.
  • Hall's default win at No. 6 singles sprung the Penmen to a 2-0 advantage.
  • After the Panthers were victorious at Nos. 5 and 2 singles to even the match at 2-all, freshman Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) posted a 7-5, 6-3 win against Karen Serina at No. 3 to give SNHU the advantage.
  • Sala then clinched the match at No. 1 to make it 4-2.


  • The Penmen, who were without both their Nos. 1 and 5 singles players, bounce back from Saturday's loss and have now won three of their last four.


  • The Penmen are back in action Tuesday, Oct. 2 (3 p.m.) when they play host to Stonehill College.
