 Assumption 3-2 (2-2 NE10), SNHU 4-4 (3-3 NE10) 

Senior Anna Sala (Matadepera, Spain) won both of her matches, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team fell to Assumption College, 5-2, Saturday at the Assumption Tennis Courts.


  • Sala was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 2 singles against Paige Benoit and also combined with classmate Sofia Morais (Porto, Portugal) for a 6-4 victory over Julia Chappell and Maria Monje.


  • Trailing, 1-0, in doubles, Morais and Sala evened it with their victory, but Assumption would win at No. 2 to secure the doubles point and go up, 1-0, in the match.
  • They Greyhounds went ahead, 3-0, with victories at Nos. 6 and 5 before Sala put the Penmen on the board.
  • Freshman Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) then pulled SNHU within 3-2 via a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 3 singles against Monje, but Assumption would come away victorious at No. 4 to clinch the match.
  • Chappell added a 6-4, 5-7, 10-7 win at No. 1 against Morais.


  • The Penmen were without both their Nos. 1 and 5 singles players.


  • The Penmen are back in action Sunday, Sept. 30 (1 p.m.) at Adelphi University.
  • The next home match for SNHU is Tuesday, Oct. 2 (3 p.m.) when it plays host to Stonehill College.
