The Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team embarks on a 10-day trip to Spain and Italy, where it will play three games against international competition and see multiple sites in the two countries. Rising senior Madi Rowan (Aliquippa, Pa.) and rising junior Mimi MacLeod (Hampton Falls, N.H.) will provide first person accounts on the trip with daily blog entries.

We closed out our last morning in Barcelona with an early roll as well as a breakfast that consisted of ham and cheese sandwiches. After a short bus ride to the Barcelona airport, we boarded our plane and took a brief two-hour plane ride to Rome.
Once we touched down in Italy, the excitement of being in a new country was rushing through the group. We are staying at the beautiful Church Palace hotel in Rome, and it has a beautiful exterior with a typical Italian interior. The music of a live five-piece band filled the lobby while people dined outside, and there is also a church located within the hotel.
Our first meal in Rome was a traditional presentation of pastas, bread, and risottos that saw everyone leave the restaurant with full stomachs. We then took the metro to the Galleria Borghese, and were able to see parks and museums that dated all the way back to the early 1600s. The museums were once homes to relatives of the pope.
We ended our evening with our usual gelato and went back to the hotel to get a good night's sleep for a full day of sightseeing tomorrow.
