Mello Highlights Trio of Men’s Lacrosse All-Conference Selections

MANSFIELD, Mass. – Junior Tyler Mello (Acushnet, Mass.) of the Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team was named an All-Northeast-10 Conference Third Team selection on Wednesday, as the conference announced its annual men's lacrosse All-Conference teams and major award winners. Freshmen Tristan Pietz (Dudley, Mass.) and Chris Valentine (Derry, N.H.) also earned All-NE10 recognition as they were both named to the All-Rookie Team.

Mello garnered All-Conference recognition for the second time in three seasons after being tabbed to the All-Rookie Team as a freshman. He started all 13 games in which he appeared in this season and raked in a career-high 31 ground balls to go along with 13 caused turnovers to help anchor the Penmen defense. Mello also added a point from his back line position after he picked up an assist in a 10-5 win over Saint Michael's College on April 10.

Pietz made an immediate impact for Southern New Hampshire in his first season. The first-year attackman tied for the team lead with 30 points and led the Penmen with 16 assists in 14 games. Pietz recorded at least one point in 11 contests this season, notched six multi-point outings and tallied three or more points in four games. He set a career high with four goals and five points in a 13-9 win over Molloy College on February 23 before registering six points on a career-best four assists and two scores in an 18-2 win over American International College on April 20. Pietz was named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week on April 16 after his first six-point performance in a 10-5 win over Saint Michael's.

Valentine also burst onto the scene in his inaugural campaign to the tune of 25 points in 14 games. Valentine was tied for second on the team in goals with 17 and also collected 20 ground balls while finishing fourth on Southern New Hampshire in total points. He was consistent throughout the duration of his freshman season with goals in each of his first eight career contests and scores in 11 total outings. Valentine recorded multi-point games on eight occasions, scored multiple goals six times and had three points or more in four games.

Southern New Hampshire wrapped up its 2019 campaign with an overall record of 4-10 and a 3-8 mark in the Northeast-10 Conference.
